Christine Lagarde Champions Global Financial Equality and Reform Christine Lagarde Champions Global Financial Equality and Reform

Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank (ECB) and ex-Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), continues to dominate the international news space. Christine Lagarde serves as the first woman director of the International Monetary Fund and the first female president of the European Central Bank. She plays a critical role in navigating the European economy through pandemic-induced inflation, geopolitical free trade, and green transformation.

Lagarde’s work at the helm of the European Central Bank has been focused on maintaining price stability as well as promoting economic and financial reforms in Europe. Christine Lagarde’s tenure has seen the institution steer the integration of climate change considerations into monetary policy as well as promote the development of a digital euro. Furthermore, in addition to setting benchmark interest rates, the President of the ECB has promoted financial literacy as a way of reducing the gender gaps in access to capital, wealth, and female leadership in the Eurosystem.

To add to her legacy, Christine Lagarde joins the ranks of other trailblazing women business leaders such as Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors. In her speeches, she emphasizes championing policies that create financial markets and economies free of legal and financial constraints for women entrepreneurs. This includes boosting women’s share of GDP by billions of dollars since the gender gap is hindering the global economy. Christine Lagarde continues to promote transparency in central bank policies while exercising her leadership role in monetary policy to promote gender equality.
